All complex shapes can be broken down into different combinations of three basic geometric shapes: the sphere, the cylinder, and the cube. Learning to break the world down into these building blocks will allow us to place our subject onto the page and then help us to further hone its relationships of light and shadow. So learning a bit about how to see and delineate these shapes in 3D space is an essential skill to being able to draw.
