The scenes above should be famiar to you all, painted down the hill from University Hall along the Hackensack River. These were done as live demos in previous semesters. The sky in the top scene is a gradient wash, answered in the reflection. Both sky and refelctions were painted first and at the same time. Allow sky washes or gradients to dry before painting landscape details. Distant trees were sketched and then blocked in using flat brushes. In the bottom scene, the strong backlighting from the sun unified the scene into areas of light and shadow.
