Painting the Human Figure



Bisecting the main form is useful. But unlike with the head, the mid-line of the body is articulated from smaller segments that can shift and snake across the form. It is this curving, snaking line that defines the center of gravity and the center of movement of a given pose. Find that line and place it lightly onto the page. Breaking down the body masses into simple geometric shapes can help simplify the subject and can be built up from there.
