Homework 3/24/26 Artists Copying Artists
|
There is a long and storied tradition of artists copying other artists. For homework, look to another piece of art as your reference and your inspiration. Do a full sheet painting of another artist's painting. While the inspiration can be work done in any medium, consider that other watercolor works will have been made using techniques you have already learned. One place to look is at this list of great American watercolorists. Another great American watercolor artist was Georgia O'keeffe, whose work was oddly left out of the first link. Beyond that you are welcome to seek out work by an artist who inspires you or go find some work that you connect with. Study it and consider how it was created and, most importantly, how you might approach it yourself. Keep in mind all of the things we've covered, such as building a watercolor painting up from the lightest colors first and saving your highlights. |
