Homework for 10/08/24

Due on 10/22/24

En Plein Air

Review the class notes on painting En Plein Air. Paint two versions of a single scene you can safely set up to work from and then return to. Design your page by the use of cropping to find an interesting composition. Do 2 paintings that take place under different lighting conditions. Morning vs night. Sunny vs rainy. Do not labor over the scene. It should be a quick study that takes no more than 20 minutes each.

Midterm Due on 10/22/24

Do a painting in the style and of the subject matter of your own choosing. It can be a portrait, landscape, still life, or other subject. For those who need inspiration, you can chose among the projects found in Chapter 6 (p. 91) of our textbook. The painting should highlight a technique or techniques that you were particularly drawn to. Grades will be based on the level of complexity and challenge of the scene vs the sucess of the attempt - as well as how well suited the techniques you choose is to the given subject matter.

Additionally to the work above, you will need to bring all semester homework and any major classwork listed below to class with you on 10/22. If for some reason you cannot attend on that day, you must make prior arrangements with instructor regarding your midterm review.
